The exhibition pays homage to and explores the relationship between Raphael and the Jesi humanist Angelo Colocci, an intellectual who was a point of reference for the great artists at the pontifical court of the 16th century: at the center of his interests, the rediscovery of antiquity, poetry and the study of language, science, and cosmology.
The exhibition will allow visitors to enter Colocci’s universe, through a collection of artworks from important Italian museums.
Among these, it will be possible to admire the funerary stele of the Aebutii from the 1st century A.D., coming from the Capitoline Museums in Rome and the Menologium rusticum Colotianum, from the National Archaeological Museum of Naples. The sculpture called the Sleeping Ariadne from the Archaeological Museum of Florence, – currently part of the collection of the Uffizi Galleries – will also be on show.
The entire exhibition will feature the most advanced multimedia and “immersive” technology means to recreate the cultural environment and the historic features of the epoch in which Raphael and Colocci lived and collaborated. In particular, the famous School of Athens from the cycle of frescoes in the Room of the Segnatura will come to life through engaging holographic creations.
